My site explores the history, development, production, exporting and social significance of pressed glass mainly in the UK from 1850 to 1910 or so. There were huge social and industrial changes through this time as competition intensified from the US and Europe.
Pressed glass varies from the mundane to the horrible to the useful to the beautiful and is a worthwhile area of study to understand our industrial past.
I am a collector of pressed glass for many years, initially from car boot sales and charity shops and now mostly via eBay.
I am happy to get queries about glass but am not an expert on many areas of glassmaking and design. In many cases I say “Oh that’s interesting, I wonder what that is”.
